Streamer Tree 8X030
This design reinvents the word ‘contemporary’ when it comes to Christmas Tree design. I see lots of swirls, and squiggles in Christmas card design, in fact it sometimes seems like a competition between card publishers to see who can represent a Christmas tree in the most modern and contemporary way. This is the first helter skelter type depiction I have come across and it certainly is striking. What you cannot see by looking at this picture is the incredibly deep embossing which zig zags like a streamer around the tree to give the card a promiment 3D feel. The illusion is progressed further with the use of spot UV varnish on the tree which gives it a luscious shine. Set all this against a jet black surround and I think this card wins the 2009 title for most contemporary Christ,mas card title featuring a Christmas Tree. …. not the grandest of titles I know.
One other nice touch with this design is the two styles of font used for the front personaliation. The ‘Merry Christmas’ greeting is personalised in a script typfeface leaving the company name to read clearly in a Times style font. Silver foil is used for the overprint on this design which again looks very striking against the solid black background.
